Venue

Kissamos, also known as Kastelli, is a small town which mostly sells tractors to the local farming community. There is however a network of cobbled streets where you can find shops and cafes leading to an area which overlooks the sea where there are traditional Cretan fish restaurants.

Our yoga venue is on the very outskirts of the small town. Here the sea is clean, warm and shallow making for easy swimming with a long quiet strand of golden sandy beach with occasional shingle. Our beach is called Mavros Molos and the yoga space is above the beach looking out to sea.

Kastelli is a seaside resort which attracts Greek tourists. Behind this coastal plain the backdrop is mountainous, the area being broken into gorges and craggy peaks. This provides for many easy grade walks, the chance to see birds of prey, vultures and wild flowers and old rural ways like treading grapes.

Apart from sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling and yoga you can visit ancient ruins, take a day cruise, explore the Venetian town of Chania, walk gorges or just be still and enjoy the ocean.

Our hosts Mike and Maria own the beachside taverna. They will be feeding us after the morning yoga class and on selected evening during the week – we are keeping some evenings spare so we can visit the fish restaurants mentioned above. Maria is a fantastic cook and during the week there will be the option of attending a cookery class where you will be taught how to prepare traditional Greek vegetarian meals. – Last year I learnt how to cook Greek vegetarian moussaka which we then got to eat yum!

Yoga

Yoga will take place twice a day approximately 07.30 and 17.30 on the yoga deck overlooking the beach with its sea views.

There will be no yoga on Thursday so that the group can travel further afield if they wish – there are fantastic walks and gorges to explore and we can either arrange official walks, or you can go off and explore on your own. There will also be an option of a boat trip.

Accommodation

The rooms are simply furnished Cretan style and have air conditioning and en-suite facilities. They are adjacent to the beach and whilst they do not have sea views it takes only a few steps to be actually on the beach.

Sun loungers and beach umbrellas are provided free of charge and there are comfortable chairs and a settee on the veranda above the beach for relaxing. You are also welcome to use the yoga space at any times that it is not being used for teaching.

There is a small super-market close by and a small boutique selling clothes. A short walk takes you to the small central village area with its cafes and shops – avoid the main road at the top of the village as this is the area where they sell tractors and industrial goods to the farmers!

Feedback from 2015 yoga holiday

Hello, this is to say what a wonderful time we had at Kissamoss. Not having done this before  we were not knowing quite what to expect however it was fantastic. The yoga was brilliant and the food awesome.  I came back a few pounds lighter, feeling healthier and alive! We will defiantly try to book again this year, has to be experienced to be believed.
Thank you” Jane & Larry

“Had a great week with Daljit in Kissamos in September this year and would recommend both to anybody who has never tried a yoga holiday, this was  my second visit and i have already booked to go back with Daljit in September 2016” Lynda Rogers

“Just wanted to say how fabulous the yoga holiday in Crete was in September. Daljit is an amazing teacher. Patient, intuitive & inventive. The whole week was fabulous. Definitely an annual ‘must do” Debbie Burton

Yoga with Daljit was a wonderful relaxing time, with lots of humour and fun. I didn’t feel like I was working, there was no striving or strain, and yet I felt both exercised and rejuvenated. I really liked the way we built on gentle movements, session by session. Kissamos is beautiful and unspoilt, friendly and hospitable.  What a great holiday. Thanks” Catrin Maby
